Massage and Holistic Health for Women
Massage Therapy is one of the oldest, most simple forms of therapy. It is a combination of stroking, pressing, and kneading different regions of the body in order to alleviate pain, relax, stimulate and tone the body. It helps to stimulate blood circulation and assists the lymphatic system by improving the elimination of waste throughout the body.
As a regular part of your nutrition and wellness program, it's important for all women, men, and even teenagers to make time for their bodies. How you take care of your body, mind & soul, is how you will feel everyday of your life.
The therapies I offer are:
Swedish Massage: One of the most commonly taught and well-known massage techniques, Swedish massage is a vigorous system of treatment designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation. Five basic strokes, all flowing toward the heart, are used to manipulate the soft tissues of the body. The many benefits of Swedish massage may include generalized relaxation, dissolution of scar tissue adhesions, and improved circulation, which may speed healing and reduce swelling from injury.
Lomi Lomi Massage: A native Hawaiian healing practice, Lomi Lomi (or lomilomi) massage is a deeply nurturing style of massage characterized by fast flowing movement. There is also a spiritual side therapists focus on giving the treatment with love and intention. Traditional practitioners may offer a prayer beforehand. There are 100,000 styles of Lomi Lomi massage, according to author Makana Risser Chai, so it’s hard to know what you’ll be getting. In general, strokes are long, flowing, fast, and rhythmic, and therapists use their hands, forearms, and occasionally their fists for deep pressure. Lomi Lomi treatments are typically choreographed and given in time to special music.
Prenatal Massage: A combination of massage techniques adapted to the specific needs of pregnant mothers. Special positioning and cushions are used for optimum comfort.
Pregnancy massage is a wonderful complement to your prenatal and postnatal wellness. The sensory experience brings greater awareness to your body and your baby, enhancing your pregnancy and birth experience. Pregnancy massage reduces stress; promotes relaxation; relieves muscle pain in the hips, back, neck, and legs; helps reduce edema; and improves labor outcomes. Beyond birth, postpartum massage helps restore the abdomen and weight bearing muscles and joints.
Postpartum Massage: Massage in the postpartum period helps bring the body into its pre-pregnancy alignment. A massage within the first week of postpartum feels wonderful. It flushes lactic acid out of the tissues, relieving sore and achy muscles.
Infant & Newborn Massage Instruction: Aids in bonding process between parent and child; increases communication skills through touch; alleviates digestive discomfort (colic); supports the growth of nerve pathways; enhances sleep.
Arvigo® Technique of Maya Abdominal Therapy: Maya Abdominal Massage Technique is well suited to assist in the relief and healing of heartburn, constipation, IBS and other digestive problems. This technique is also perfect for women who have irregular cycles, endrometriosis, fibroids, PCOS, menopausal or other hormone fluctuations and infertility. Other issues that may be relieved are headaches, backaches, and lymphatic stagnicity.
Hot Stone Massage: Hot Stone Massage is a style of massage therapy in which water-treated stones are placed at specific sites on the client's body to promote relaxation and to help open up the merdians or pain pathways. Muscles are pretreated with the heated stones to allow the therapist to more easily perform deep tissue manipulations. Cool stones are sometimes used alternately with hot stones. Himalayan Salt stones now available!
Reflexology: Reflexology (or foot reflexology) is a therapy based on the principle that there are small and specific areas of innervation in the hands and feet that correspond to specific muscle groups or organs of the body. In this system, the nerve endings in the extremities provide a "map" of the rest of the body. Examples are the base of the little toe representing the ear, or the ball of the foot representing the lung. Through the application of pressure on particular areas of the hands or feet, reflexology is said to promote benefits such as the relaxation of tension, improvement of circulation, and support of normalized function in the related area in the body.
(ayurvedic exfoliation and soothing herbal oil treatment)
This treatment begins with dry skin brushing using raw silk gloves, followed by an individualized herbal oil massage. The brushing (garshana), prepares the skin so the herbal oil application can penetrate deeply and effectively. The treatment ends with the placement of warm, heavy bean bags on the body during a resting/integrating period to complete this ultimate relaxation experience.
Abhyanga ("rubbing of limbs") is the classic Ayurvedic Massage and is traditionally used to prepare the body for medical treatment. According to the Ayurvedic text Astanga Hridaya, the benefits of Abhyanga are:
eases stress on the nervous system
nourishes the body
promotes sturdiness of the body
